Brought to life in 2010 as the brainchild of two friends and sports fanatics from the University of Southern California, Teague Egan and Sterling Brewster, 1st Round Athletics has one mission and one mission only, to naturally improve athletic performance through innovation and cutting edge technology in a healthy, legal, and sustainable way. We aim to increase speed, strength, power, and endurance because sport is a game of inches, and every edge is monumental. 1st Round is comprised of men’s and women’s apparel including their signature SmartShield® compression line for men, as well as an athletic seamless fit, and a loose fit. 1st Round produces shirts, tanks, leggings, shorts, running shorts, and accessories including socks, wristbands and headbands.
Additionally, 1st Round uses a new technology in all of its initial products called energyDNA®. Now millions of athletes can play and compete with the same level of energy and performance in the final moments of a game they do in the beginning. Our energyDNA® technology uses heat from the body and turns that into reusable energy to increase oxygen to the muscles of the athlete.
Led by Co-Founder & CEO Teague Egan, Co-Founder and President Sterling Brewster, Chief Technology Officer Trenton Horinek, and Head of Athlete Development Jordan Campbell, 1st Round Athletics is based in Los Angeles, CA.
Co-Founder & CEO
Leading the vision for the 1st Round, Teague wanted to create a premiere sporting goods and apparel company based on advancing technology. He leads efforts in all areas of the company and is always seeking new ways to innovate and create better products. For Teague, it’s all about accelerating athletic performance, and improving the ways athletes compete against one another. He graduated from University of Southern California with a degree in Business.
As President and a co-founder, Sterling is responsible for the daily operations of 1st Round. This means putting into action policies and guiding different activities and initiatives as necessary among the different departments of the company (i.e. production, development, partnerships, sales, marketing, etc.) Sterling’s main day-to-day job is to oversee the Formula E partnership. He handles all the design, development, and manufacturing of the Formula E apparel. Sterling also works closely with CEO Teague Egan on bigger decisions within the race organization and our agreement such as partnerships with different teams and drivers. Sterling graduated with a BA from the University of Southern California in 2011.
VP of Sales and Marketing
Zack is a co-founder of 1st Round. He is responsible for retail sales and marketing initiatives. Within the sales department, Zack is in charge of all tradeshows operations, gifting suites, and pop-up shops. This includes traveling to events to promote 1st Round. Marketing duties also fall within his roles. He plans our digital marketing campaigns on social media including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as well as more robust campaigns on Google. In the near future, he will be responsible for handling all retail accounts and in store marketing.
Director of Shipping & Logistics
Nick oversees all distribution, fulfillment, and logistics concerning all sales. Once a sale is made, Nick is responsible for making sure that customer receives their product. He is also responsible for the companies’ online portal and all e-commerce sales. With an extensive knowledge about collegiate sports and scouting, Nick also looks for new players and representatives that may fit well with the brand. Nick is always pursuing new business partners for the company whether it a Pro-Bowl NFL star or a local gym. Nick has been with 1st Round since 2014, and graduated from University of Miami in 2014 with a B.A.
Head of Design, Merchandising, & Product Development
Victoria handles all aspects of design, merchandising, and development across all categories for 1st Round Athletics. She provides design leadership for 1st Round's Men’s and Women's active wear through creating and executing with technical specifications, seasonal design concepts that focus on innovation, function, quality, and style. She works closely with the entire 1st Round team to achieve the best possible product in a fast-paced, competitive market.
Art Director & Conceptual Designer
Angel is responsible for the visual aesthetic that speaks the brand. He creates the overall experience and design of all content ranging from user interface, digital marketing assets, print, and conceptual development. He plans on evolving 1st Round into a top tier technology apparel company for the masses and has been with the company since 2013. Angel graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in 2014.
Chief Scientist of energyDNA®
Trenton father is the inventor and creator of Celliant, one of the main compounds of energyDNA®. He has helped his father develop the technology, and the two have been working side by side for the last 15 years. Serving as the Chief Scientist of energyDNA@, Trenton has expert knowledge of how the technology works and it’s positive interaction with the body. Trenton overseas all clinical studies, research and development, and lab testing for 1st Round. He is currently working on developing a new, more advanced blend of energyDNA@.
Head of Web and Mobile
Legal / Founder of Weinberg Gonser LLP
Tye concentrates his practice on empowering privately held companies and highly visible individuals to achieve their goals and protect their interests. He represents emerging and growth companies and athletes across numerous industries. Tye advises C-level executives, athletes, personalities and sports agencies in all areas of their business dealings, including employment agreements, endorsements, licensing deals, branding, business opportunities, and other matters. He has been advising and doing legal work with 1st Round Athletics since 2011.
Head of Apparel and Accessories Manufacturing / Founder of the S-Group
Gary Peck has over 20 years of experience and is a recognized figure in the industry. His company the S Group takes a brand DNA and expresses it into design that would become indigenous to the applicable brand. The ability of including all aspects of a product demand chain designed to fit the market and distribution needs of the brand is a key function of the S Group. 1st Round utilizes Pecks global team in the field of design, innovation, product commercialization, sourcing, production, and quality assurance. S Group has handled all of 1st Round’s manufacturing needs since 2014.
Head of Footwear Development / Founder Oranj Creative
Kenny Carroll is the founder of Oranj Creative, the group in charge of development and manufacturing of 1st Round footwear. The Oranj Creative Team has 30+ years submerged passionately and constantly in the culture surrounding Sport Performance, Lifestyle, Fashion & Streetwear. They have real time experiences from growing smaller brands to the remote details of building product in Far East Asia. The Oranj Creative Team understands Product Design, Branding and Selling to the Mass Consumer, Performance & Innovation, and the Hungry Athlete
Head of Footwear Design
Art and design has been Quentin Williams’ passion since the tender age of 5. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design at the Savannah College of Art & Design in 2007. During his enrollment, he captured his destined talent and calling...footwear design. After an internship in Brooklyn, NY, a PENSOLE course in Portland, OR, a two-month commissioned footwear assignment in Dongguan, China, and the winning of a national footwear competition, Quentin has become a premiere designer. He has designed shoes for industry giants Nike, Adidas, and Peak.
